Potters get fired up to showcase new exhibition
The Mayor of Sefton, Councillor Dave Robinson officially opened Ceramica last week at the ArtHouse on Eastbank Street.
A NEW ceramics exhibition is running in Southport, until Saturday, November 17.
It showcases contemporary ceramics by members of ClayWorks, a group of 'friendly and cheerful amateur potters who aim to promote pottery as an accessible, vibrant, fun and interesting craft.'
The group, which consists of Betty Dawber, Carole Dawber, Martin Dawber, Debbie Kazara, Sarah Park, Stan Park, Barry Sillito, Tarnya Stanton-Britton and Simon Wolf, meet up once a week and have fun as well as 'working together to support each other.' They use a wide range of ceramic techniques from rolling out slabs and coils; direct sculpting in clay; throwing on the wheel and experimenting with glazes on the surface of the fired clay.
