Martin Dawber
Following my formal education at Wigan Grammar School, I gained a BA at Liverpool Art School and subsequently a Masters at The Royal College of Art in London.
As a practitioner I have always enjoyed moving away from the expected and rising to the unknown. My early work was predominantly 2-D and graphic in expression but I have lately been attracted to developing a more tactile articulation and am currently enjoying breathing life into wet clay.
I have been fortunate enough to have my work selected for regional exhibitions (Sefton Open; Liverpool Biennial; Sheffield’s ‘Art in the Gardens’; etc.) as well as internationally in Paris (INDIGO) and Kymenlaakson Ammattikorkeakoulu (Kouvola) in Finland.
For over 35 years I was a senior academic (Lecturer, External Examiner, Academic Advisor, Head of Department) operating both in the UK and overseas, but always welcomed the challenge afforded by commissions and briefs from varied clients (International Institute for Cotton; Benjamin Dent; Deryck Healey International; etc.). As a subject specialist and advisor, I have contributed to a variety of published texts as well as presenting a weekly column in the Liverpool Daily Post. I am a best selling author of over 15 art & design books prepared for a variety of international publishing houses.
Art will always be considered a personal means of expression and I feel fortunate that I have been able to channel my own individual expression towards a breadth of activities without ever sacrificing my personal identity.
